The Battle of Hal’s Bar & Grill vs Monte Cello’s
I have been working at Monte Cello’s as a hostess for a couple of months now. My best friend, Maddie, is a hostess at Hal’s Bar and Grill, so I decided to share her time as a hostess and compare my experience to hers. We are both grateful to be allowed to work with such amazing people. Our jobs are preparing us for the road ahead and show us a glimpse of the real world.
My favorite part about working at Monte Cello’s is the customer’s. I love seeing the regulars who come in with a smile on their face asking me about my week. They don’t realize it but seeing them makes my whole shift better. I went to Maddie to get some information about her favorite part of working at Hal’s and she told me it was the people she works with. She loves the hostess as well as the kitchen staff and servers. It makes a huge difference when you work with a good group of people. Having a good staff makes work something to look forward to rather than dreadful.
Even though me and Maddie hold the same position we have very different ways of working. The tasks we are told to complete are unlike. From chatting we’ve found that Monte Cello’s has a larger staff than Hal’s. This infers that while I’m strictly at the front of the restaurant Maddie is running around the building. Maddie has to be able to multitask and has many priorities. My position as a hostess at Monte Cello’s only has me seating people at tables. Monte Cello’s has different job titles for all the tasks Maddie has on her plate at Hal’s as a hostess, for example, she runs food and at Monte Cello’s we have servers that complete that task.
Scheduling at Monte Cello’s works very differently from Hal’s. At Monte Cello’s my schedule is set in stone while Maddie could be put on the schedule for a different day every week. Not only is the way they schedule shifts for a day different but so are the times. My shift time for Monte Cello’s is 11:30 – 4:00 or 4:00 – 9:00.The time for my shift never changes. Maddie’s time changes with every shift.
Both Monte Cello’s and Hal’s Bar and Grill are amazing businesses. I appreciate my coworkers for giving me an uplifting environment and my manager who does an incredible job showing us the way around the restaurant. From my article, I hope you get a better understanding that there are different strategies and techniques in the food department. Stop by sometime to see us while we’re working!
