Halloween Sports Myths
By Tristin Weimann
Has anything weird happened to you during Halloween? Halloween is known to be spooky and mysterious. A lot of myths, ghosts, skinwalkers and other creepy stuff come up around this time of year. Oklahoma sends teams to that hotel and I guess it really is a hometown advantage.
The San Antonio Spurs really do think that Effie the ghost really is haunted. A lot of teams that play in Oklahoma stay in the Skirvin Hilton Hotel. It’s been there for 103 years and a lot of teams have reported meeting the ghost of the hotel. The players say they heard doors slam, baths being filled as well as the groans and screams of a woman and baby. This is why the Thunder win A lot of home games. In the 30s, legend has it that the Skirvin Hotel’s owner impregnated Effie the hotel janitor and locked her in an upper room. With a baby in tow she leaped from the balcony because she couldn’t do it anymore. In 2015, the coach of the Spurs said he came back to the hotel late and the key to his room didn’t work. Behind the door, he heard a baby making noise. Tim Duncan also came out and said that he heard a baby in the coach’s room. Another report came from Bill Simmons who said that he heard a baby crying. He woke up thinking that it was his kid but then he remembered he was in Oklahoma not LA. The Thunder have a hometown advantage because they don`t have to deal with a ghost before the game.
The Ghost Of Eddie Plank. A major league baseball player died 70 years ago. He died in his house in Gettysburg, PA and a new family moved in. The first thing they reported was that they started hearing a baseball getting thrown off a fence. When they went to go look no one was there. They said this happened over and over again all day. They started hearing grunts and footsteps around the house. Then, a pitching routine with more grunts. Then, a month later, it stopped just shy of MLB opening day. Maybe Eddie was satisfied with his pre-season work for the season and never came back.
Has anything weird happened to you during Halloween? Well that’s some of the weird things that happen to the Spurs and a family in PA. Do you believe the story of Eddie Plank and the Skirvin Hotel? I’m on the edge about it, I’ve never believed in stuff like that but why would someone lie about a story?
