Waltz into Cinderella

Waltz into Cinderella

Victoria Noker, Staff Writer

It’s that time of year again: musical season! After dancing through Bomont last year in Footloose, the North Hills Drama Club is now taking its audience to the fairytale world of Cinderella. This classic story is being brought to life with vibrant costumes, impressive scenery, and stylistic dancing. The dancing in particular has been quite challenging for the cast. With such specific styles to perform, the dance rehearsals have been intense. The cast has learned how to waltz and gavotte, two very precise dances. Connor Hoffman, a junior, says, “It was difficult at first, but with support from the cast, especially from people who know how to dance to people who can’t dance, like myself, it got a lot easier. I think the show will go extremely well!” Margot California, a senior, says, “ I think the dancing really helps to bring the story to life!” The cast has worked extremely hard to perfect these dances. “It has been so much fun!” Margot adds.

Not only has the dancing been a challenge, but the tech crew has been challenged with a very meticulous scene change. Scene changes are never simple, however the transformation scene involving the pumpkin and Cinderella’s dress proves to be demanding. The tech crew only has a limited amount of time to set the stage and make sure that all the special effects are in order. They do all this silently behind a dark curtain, making it even more difficult. Evan Medfisch, a senior, says, “ I’ve never used strobe lights and fog before, I don’t know if any of us have. It’s definitely a challenge!” With plenty of practice, the scene runs smoothly and will be ready for opening night.

Cinderella runs Thursday, April 7th through Saturday, April 9th, and Wednesday, April 15th through Saturday, April 16th. The cast, crew, and orchestra have been working extremely hard, and everyone is very excited to open! We hope you can join us for this truly magical performance!!
