The North Hills Varsity Ice Hockey team finished the season on a hot streak and won their first section championship in 41 years.

With two impressive victories against Plum to finish out the season, the team finished with a 10-12 record, which was good enough to lock up a playoff berth. After Thursday night’s matchup between Chartiers Valley and West Allegheny, the Indians will play Bishop Canevin in the first round of the Class AA Penguins Cup.

Joining North Hills and Bishop Canevin in the eight-team, single elimination tournament will be Erie Cathedral Prep, Plum, Hampton, Armstrong, Latrobe and Chartiers Valley.

Juniors Brett Berner and Tyler Volz and senior Tyler Heisel led the way for the squad this season as the three leading scorers. After an exciting game victory against Armstrong, the Indians picked up quality victories over Plum, Moon, and Chartiers Valley.

The team will take on Bishop Canevin on Monday night at Mount Lebanon Ice Complex. Puck drops at 7:15.
