Sports RoundTable Week 2

The Sports Roundtable consists of four sports driven students that watch sports 24/7. Some of the biggest sports topics will be discussed by seniors Stephen Cosentino, Aidan Segal, Nick Smith, and Bub Volz in this epic roundtable discussion.

Q: Bub- “There are four teams left in the MLB playoffs, Indians, Cubs, Blue Jays, and Dodgers, Who do you have winning?”

Stephen A- “I’m feeling the Cubs this year. This will be the year they break the curse. They have a solid pitching rotation along with a powerful lineup. Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo are going to carry them through the World Series offensively. Jon Lester will be the ace for their pitching rotation.”

Segal- “I am hoping to see a Chicago-Cleveland matchup, two teams that have been starving in terms of championships. The Cubs are a very strong team and it has been over one hundred years since they’ve won a title. Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo have the big bats in the lineup. Jake Arrieta along with the rest of the dominant pitching staff convinces me that the curse will be broken.”

Smith- “Who do I think? The Cubs sadly.  Who do I want? Anyone but the Cubs.  I can’t stand the Cubs but they just have too much pitching and to many people who can change the game with one swing of the bat.  So I will sadly say the Cubs.”

Q: Stephen A- “Pitcher for the Cleveland Indians Trevor Bauer cut his hand while doing routine maintenance to his drone. What is the weirdest non-sports injury to happen to an athlete?”

Bub-“Plaxico Burress is by far the funniest non-sports injury. Shooting yourself in the leg at a nightclub when he has everything in front of them is absolutely hysterical.”

Segal- “Nothing is more bizarre than when Jason Pierre-Paul destroyed his hand from fireworks. Do not search for it on google images. Not a pretty picture to say the least.”

Smith- “Joel Zumaya hands down.  The guy threw over 100 MPH and was the best relief pitcher on his Detroit Tigers team.  In the 2006 ALCS he was ruled out for the series because he sprained his wrist playing guitar hero.  How dumb can you be?”

Q: Smith- “Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers and Big Ben are three of the best quarterbacks in today’s game.  But, if you were to start a franchise run around one guy, other than a quarterback, would it be a wide receiver or running back and who?”

Bub- “Personally, I’m a huge fan of Lev Bell, People say his head is not in the right place and I’m not gonna lie he doesn’t use his head sometimes. Whenever he is on the field, he is the best running back in the league. His patience whenever he gets the ball is something I’ve never seen before. He is also a threat outside the backfield and he basically can play wide receiver as well.”

Stephen A- “I would start my franchise around a wide receiver. They would have to have the ability to run the ball or even pass. A receiver that is a double threat of some sort is always deadly. Someone like Antonio Brown who has the ability to get the ball off a handoff and get around the edge would be deadly.”

Segal- “A wide receiver. And that wide receiver would be a man by the name of Antonio Brown. #84 is one of the most athletic players in the league and he could be the face of any franchise. I really hope he gets a couple rings before he retires.”

Q: Segal- “Big Ben will undergo surgery. Can the Steelers’ offense thrive without him?”

Stephen A.- “They did it last year and they’ll for sure do it again this year. With all of the firepower they have at running back and wide receiver it’ll be enough to help out whoever is at quarterback. We’ll probably get to see a little wildcat from Bell which could be a deadly offensive set for the Steelers. I also think they will run the ball more with the ability to sub in Williams who had a great start during Bell’s suspension.”

Smith-“If this means Landry Jones being the quarterback then kiss the season goodbye.  Landry Jones might just be the worst backup in all of NFL football.  The Steelers have no chance to win next week against the Patriots.  Also, they have no chance of going anywhere without Big Ben.  He is too valuable to this team.”

Bub- “The loss of Big Ben will make a huge difference for the Steelers’ offense. I am not a fan of Landry Jones and now he has to face Tom Brady and the New England Patriots this week. I don’t think he is a good Quarterback but he does have the help to maybe sneak out a game. He has Antonio Brown and Le’veon Bell to use and should lean on them HEAVILY if there is any shot of winning this week.”
