Mary Malone, a senior distance runner, earned a State Medal for her fourth place finish at the Pennsylvania Track and Field Coaches Association Championships at Penn State in the 3000 meters.

Malone returned to the Indoor State Championship meet on March 1st as a returning medalist in the same event as last year’s 7th place finisher. Having logged the fifth fastest 3000 meter time in the state going into the meet and getting 2nd place in the 3000 at TSTCA Championships, Mary was a favorite to achieve a top 5 finish. Malone clocked a 10:06.97 for her state medal.

The distance runners at PTFCA state championships had to put in miles out in sub-zero wind chills this year, but it was all worth it on March 1st. Malone said, “I truly enjoy competing and pushing my limits in races, and the state race brings the fastest girls in the state together to show all the hard work that they have put in over the LONG winter.”

With outdoor track starting on March 3rd, Malone and the other athletes intend to get right back to work, as they look forward to competing in the outdoor championship meets in May.
