Over the summer, I typically read a lot more than I do during the school year without the stress of school making my heart palpitate and my eyes unable to focus. Over the course of the year, I have picked up titles I want to read over vacation. So, I’m sharing that with all of you! Keep in mind, I haven’t read (most of) these yet, so I’m not recommending them. They may be fantastic, they may be trash. I’m excited to see which it is!
The Scott Pilgrim Series by Bryan Lee O’Malley- While this is technically six books, they are all graphic novels, so they’re quick enough of a read that I’m counting them as one book. I love this series, I have watched the TV show, movie, and played the video game multiple times each. This will be my third read of the books. Can you tell that I like this series a lot?
She Gets the Girl by Alyson Derrick and Rachael Lippincott- I enjoy reading sapphic literature (which this is) and I like one of the other works made by one of the authors so I have high hopes. Last summer I read one of the co-authors’ novels (Pride, Prejudice and Pittsburgh), so I’m very excited to see what she and her wife cooked up!
Sunrise on the Reaping by Susan Collins- I loved reading The Hunger Games and am currently reading Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, so I have to complete the series! I really like Susan Collins’ writing style, she has heavily influenced how I write fiction, for the better in my opinion.
I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream by Harlan Ellison- This is an older horror story that I’ve been wanting to read for a while. It is the original “AI turns evil and dooms humanity” story. There was a game made in the 80’s based on the story and I’d like to play that, but I have to read the book first.
Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie- If you don’t think you recognize this one, you’re wrong. It is a classic mystery novel that almost every TV show in existence has done an homage to, from Doctor Who to kids shows like My Little Pony.
Frankenstein by Mary Shelley- I started reading this in the fall, around halloween, but I started to get swamped with schoolwork, so I never finished it. I thoroughly enjoyed the little bit that I did read, so I am very excited to finish it!
Odds are I won’t be able to finish, or even start all of these, but I can dream!!!
