Last week’s edition of “This Week In Country Music” I said that there will be no week that will ever top last week for a long while; I was very wrong. At first, this week looked like a bit of a breather. Especially after the insanity that was last week. This changed very quickly and this week turned out to be one of the most insane weeks of country music that I have ever seen.
The week really started to get crazy when ERNEST and Snoop Dogg (yes Snoop Dogg) put out their new song “Gettin’ Gone” which really surprised me. Not just because it’s Snoop Dogg on a country song but because of it being generally a really good song. Snoop really stands out on this track and it surprised me how quickly Snoop adapted to the country style so quickly. “Gettin’ Gone” gives that twang, Johnny Cash like style that country hasn’t really had in a long time and is definitely the standout from this week.
Another surprise was last year’s breakout country star Shaboozey dropping his new song “Blink Twice” in collaboration with another breakout star of last year in the pop world, Myles Smith. Shaboozey has been teasing this song for a couple weeks and he’s been hyping it for a while now. This track did not disappoint and with the addition of Myles Smith, who fits on the track so seamlessly and blends in with Shaboozey so perfectly, this actually might be the best overall song that came out this week.
HARDY who has been at the top of his game these past couple of years put out two songs off of his upcoming EP “COUNTRY!” These two songs were “Favorite Country Song” (my personal favorite of these two) and “Buck On The Wall” which are two really good songs. HARDY’s style of country and rock really blend well between both of these songs and debatably these two songs are two of the best songs that HARDY has ever put out.
Along with all these other songs, country music veteran Jon Pardi released his new album “Honkytonk Hollywood,” which is very good. Overall this album is definitely the best album that Jon Pardi has ever put out with my favorite song off the album being “She Drives Away.” There is not one bad song off the album which is surprising for someone who’s been in the country music game for a little over 10 years now.
There are two more noteworthy songs that came out this week being Jelly Roll’s new song “Dreams Don’t Die” and Blake Shelton’s new song “Stay Country or Die Tryin” off of his new album “For Recreational Use Only” coming out May 9th. These two were pretty good songs but they got completely overshadowed by everything else that came out this past week. Overall, I went from when there is going to be a week with nothing really going on, to when it is going to stop this is getting out of hand now. Jokes aside, this was a really great week for country music.
