Ladies and gentleman, boys and girls, and everything else in between, your Pittsburgh Pirates are actually starting off good. Then again, it is spring training and most of the league’s best players have not played yet. Still though the Pirates are having a strong start to their season so far in spring training starting off 6-2.
The highlight of this hot streak is our star pitcher Paul Skenes who debuted two brand new pitches that he has been working on. Those two pitches adding a cutter and a running two-seam which are some of the most deadly and most dangerous pitches there are. This season, Skenes is looking to try and put this team into the next level next season and try and push for a wild card spot.
Another player standing out is DJ Stewart who we recently signed to a one year contract. DJ or “Stew” is one who I didn’t really think that much about going into this season. Stew has surprised everyone so far with people saying he has a resemblance to a fan favorite from last year in Rowdy Tellez.
These two along with everyone else we have and haven’t even played yet like Bryan Reynolds and Andrew McCutchen should push us into a new level this season. We have so many young players that could also be brought up when the season starts. Those players include Konnor Griffin, Bubba Chandler, and Termarr Johnson who all, at this point, could slot into the Pirates and immediately make us better.
