How often do you think about 2020? Is it everyday? At least for me it is. A lot has happened and the fact that it has been five years since is quite unbelievable. Many people have different opinions engraved into their heads, but one thing that I think we can all agree on is the big impact it had on EVERYTHING.
What do you think it would be like if it all never happened? Totally different, right? Although it was a worldwide pandemic, it definitely showed us how quickly everything can change in just a moment. We went from a two week break- to a three month long lockdown. During those months, mostly, everyone was chronically online. Definitely a cringe era, but I feel like that’s what made it better. The fact that we all had something to distract ourselves from what was happening in the outside world.
It was such an isolated point in time–as if we had gotten this period in our life to figure ourselves out. We found out who we are, what our favorite things to do are, and how to do things ourselves. I know it had a greater meaning than just a “pandemic.” It was as if the whole world could relate to the same things, giving us thoughts in common, starting conversations, and making new relationships. It felt like a new beginning, a fresh start.
It was the start of spring, beautiful weather, no school, just a genuine good time. The five year difference is what gets me -and most people too, because it feels just like yesterday but a million years ago at the same time. I think about 2020 now, because of how the new year just happened, we’re about to enter spring. It just feels like another fresh start. Time to heal yourself from what has happened in the past. Time to move on and to stop reminiscing over things that you can’t change because they have already happened. All you can physically do is try your best to get through each day, because what you’ve been doing, has gotten you this far. You have made it five years.
Five whole years of this school and of trying to be your own person. One day, maybe soon, maybe later, but one day, you will be satisfied with what you have accomplished in life. You just have to work for it. We’re all in this together and always have been. Quarantine helped us realize how not so different we are from each other. We all have one thing in common that’s for sure and it is our capability to feel emotion. The biggest one, nostalgia.
