Throughout January, many parts of America have faced snowstorms and blizzards. Even Florida, known for its warm weather, has been subjected to the harsh conditions of cold weather. Citizens of Pensacola, Florida woke up to see snow on the ground outside. There has even been a surprising amount of snow spotted on the beaches. The Gulf of Mexico has been reported to have more than three inches of snow. Certain spots in Florida have broken snow records set over 100 years ago. With the heavy amount of snow in Florida it has also been seen all over the usual sunny and sandy beaches. This is extremely unusual for the residents of Florida. People have been posting hundreds of photos and videos on social media of the unusual sight. If you look up “snow on the beach” you can find many videos of families, who usually don’t see snow, playing on the beach in the cold.
Now, as cool as this is, it can also be dangerous. The locals are unfamiliar with the problems that snow can create. The snow has caused certain roads in Florida to be impassable and ultimately shut down. This is dangerous in itself, but when paired with residents who are unsure how to deal with the problem, it is even worse. Despite the minimal amount of experience they have with snowfall, Floridians are attempting to solve this efficiently.
There are blizzard warnings all over the area. Places like Louisiana are receiving their first ever winter storm warnings. The state’s weather warnings have been in effect for weeks. As of right now, the storms have started to calm. After record-breaking cold temperatures and snowfall the weather has started to warm up. Florida has not had snowfall for the past few days and residents are starting to see the snow melt away. This unexpected weather has been a rare occurrence to the residents of northern Florida, one they have not seen for many years. As the weather warms up the locals are to continue with their lives and wonder how many years they’ll have to wait for another snowfall.
