The 59th Super Bowl took place last night, as the Kansas City Chiefs took on the Philadelphia Eagles for the Lombardi Trophy. And while the game was an absolute disaster for the Chiefs, there were also some commercials that didn’t score with audiences.
T-Mobile’s ad, which announced a partnership with Elon Musk’s Starlink company, was not one that was met with positive reactions. Musk is currently under fire (and rightfully so) for having access to millions of government workers personal information. Musk also has assembled a team called DOGE, whose goal is to cut government spending. He is not doing any good for the American people, so promoting him is not the best thing to do, especially on a stage such as big as the Super Bowl.
Another ad that garnered controversy was an ad promoting the Church of Scientology. Scientology is a controversial worshipping practice, as there have been allegations of mistreatment and the fact that the church believes psychology and psychiatry are a sham. The church prevents their members from getting medical help, and members have even died by suicide because they were denied medical help. The church has faced controversy ever since it was founded, and it will continue to in the future.
Finally, an ad by the Foundation to Combat Antisemitism missed the mark completely, which is hard to believe. In the ad, Snoop Dogg and Tom Brady are yelling at each other back and forth, spewing hate. The ad does not mention antisemitism at all, which is the most confusing part of this message. This ad is also ironic, as Snoop Dogg performed at Donald Trump’s inauguration, and Trump is known to be a very hateful person. This ad would have been a lot better if it focused on antisemitism and how to stop it, instead of having two celebrities yelling in each other’s faces. Overall, the ads this year seemed to fall short of the goal line, and hopefully next year’s ads can make up for all the missed opportunities.
