Ten years ago, North Hills High School students and staff members created a lip dub video that gained over half a million views on popular video sharing platform YouTube. Now they’re recreating it.
Directed by Senior Class President Avery Gallagher and shot by Filmmaking student Jack Alexander, the lip dub will be shot throughout the entire high school, highlighting various clubs and student organizations such as the cheerleaders, the marching band, our world language clubs, and student run band “The Spitvalves.” As the camera moves through the high school, student groups will lip sync to different songs, with one song being chosen to represent each year from 2014 – the year of the original lip dub – to 2024, the current year.
Jack Alexander, one of the leading minds behind the lip dub and the student who will be shooting it, was asked several questions about the process of creating this project. When asked whether he thinks the lip dub will have a lasting impact on the school, he stated; “I really hope! The one from ten years ago definitely did so I really hope ours can reach those heights.” He also mentioned that he “would love to see the school bring this back in future years.” Several rehearsals and run-throughs of the lip dub have already occurred, with several more already planned leading up to the official film date. On the subject of whether it was difficult to gather all of the student groups needed to rehearse, he stated “There has definitely been a huge struggle with placing people and figuring out where everybody goes. The rehearsals with the individual performers went very well though.” He was also quoted as saying he “really hopes everyone enjoys participating in the lip dub.”
The next rehearsal for the lip dub will be from 2:00-5:00 PM on Thursday, May 9th, the day before the final recording. All performers are expected to attend to ensure that the final filming will run smoothly. The lip dub will be filmed on Friday during 8th and 9th periods!
