On Tuesday, May 7th, the North Hills Guitar Ensemble will perform in the group’s annual spring guitar concert. This event will be held in the high school auditorium, and the concert will start at 7 PM.
At the upcoming concert, the group will play twelve songs, ranging from Oasis’s “Wonderwall” to Morgan Wallen’s “Thought You Should Know.” Some other songs include, “Fast Car,” “Sleeper’s Awake,” and “Lean on Me.” Lindsey Clark, a senior who will provide vocals for five of the group’s songs, said she is most excited to sing “The Game of Love,” by Santana. Lindsey explains, “The Game of Love 1000%– I’m excited for the versatility of the concert.” Another highlight of the performance will be Drew Schneider’s performance of “Tango En Skaï,” which will be played on Drew’s classical guitar.
Guitar Ensemble is taught first and second period by Ms. Heidi Kohne, a 1989 North Hills graduate. She introduced the guitar to North Hills in 1995, and it provided an opportunity for students to learn and practice guitar in their daily high school schedule. Then, in the late 2000s, Ms. Kohne introduced the Guitar Ensemble into the North Hills’ music program. Very few schools have a Guitar Ensemble, so Ms. Kohne created a musical experience that was unique to North Hills. Ms. Kohne chooses a wide variety of music, and even allows students to recommend songs for each semester. Owen McKee, also a senior, will be singing “Let Her Go” by Passenger. Owen stated, “I’m excited for the concert in general. Learning guitar is one of the greatest things I’ve ever done. It’s freeing. If you have the chance to take this class, take it, no matter what grade you are in.”
Past performances were received well by the audience, and many people enjoy this concert due to the fun and relaxing atmosphere that comes with listening to many recognizable pop songs.
