With the upcoming Super Bowl game on February 11th there is one issuing causing a lot of conflict: Taylor Swift. The recent romance between Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs Travis Kelce has made a huge impact on the NFL. The two receive backlash for simply supporting each other’s careers. After the Chiefs win against the Ravens on Sunday many are upset to have to see the Chiefs in the Super Bowl for many reasons, one being Taylor Swift. The main issue people have is when the cameras are constantly cutting to shots of Taylor during the games instead of focusing on the game. Throughout the season many have been blaming Taylor for it saying it’s her fault and she is ruining the game for simply supporting her boyfriend’s career. Though on the contrary both have been asked about this and both have said they don’t want or like the cameras to constantly be cutting and focusing on them. It is unfair to her as she is trying to also support the team and also enjoy the game as everyone else there just because she is a huge pop star doesn’t mean she isn’t a person. If she were to stop going to the games there is a huge chance that she would still receive the hate for “not supporting” her boyfriend. It’s a situation that no matter what, she can’t win. Unlike her many other celebrities support teams such as Eminem, when he goes to the games and it cuts to him he doesn’t receive any of the same backlash as her. The real issue is not the fact they are there to support the teams, it’s the media creating drama and pressuring them to do things. A major reason is the NFL using Taylor Swift to attract more attention to the league as they have been attracting more of her fans’ support. In the end it’s all for the gain of money and attention. I can understand how you want to watch something you enjoy and constantly focus on a completely different subject, it’s annoying. But to direct the hate towards someone who also is trying to enjoy the sport is unfair. There are many perspectives to look at and understand, if you look at Travis going to her shows and being praised for being such an amazing and supportive boyfriend but the moment she goes to support him she is seeking attention and ruining the NFL? It’s a double standard that she can’t get around, any of the other girlfriends/wives at the games don’t receive backlash for supporting their boyfriends/husbands but just because she’s famous means it’s different. People forget that yes she is a big star and is a huge influence on many things but she still is a person too, she wants privacy as much as any other person does. Some may argue that being famous means you don’t have privacy anymore but really it’s the media that takes away any privacy celebrities have. The pressure the public is putting on these two is uncalled for and in the long run could have a serious effect on their relationship. Especially for Taylor, as she is such a big star a big part of that is the possibility that others are using her for attention and fame and with the NFL basically using her to gain more attention it could create ideas that Travis is also using her. Ultimately the real people at blame here aren’t the two simply trying to live their lives, it’s the media and NFL creating the extreme comments and attention they face.
