Keeping Holiday Spirit Alive During a Pandemic

Keeping Holiday Spirit Alive During a Pandemic

Emily Peck

This holiday season is far from traditional. I highly doubt quarantining is a usual part of your festivities. Although all of the current events (Covid 19, the Steelers losing their undefeated streak, etc.) may be bringing down your holiday spirit, remember that nothing is stopping you and your family from continuing your holiday traditions! All of your favorite traditions are possible, even though they may need to be changed in some ways. Nothing is stopping you from baking, cooking, enjoying the outdoors, decorating, or giving gifts. If your family traditionally bakes cookies, then bake cookies! Although your family and friends that don’t live with you may not be able to physically be with you, you can bake the cookies with them virtually. If you want to enjoy the outdoors, go for a walk around your neighborhood. Afterwards, it is always an enjoyable option to drink hot chocolate to warm yourself. Decorating your home will get you in the holiday spirit, and is a fun activity to do inside. Stores are still open, but even if you can’t go shopping in person, there is always the option of shopping online. Giving gifts to someone can make you feel happy, and make the person that is receiving it happy as well. Not all festivities need to be traditional; it could be fun to try something new! Did you decide that you’re in the mood to build a snowman? Try giving the snowman a mask! Put a bottle of hand sanitizer in his hand! Maybe even make him hold some toilet paper! Feel like getting out of your house? The Hilltop (North Hills High School and North Hills Middle School) will have the trees decorated by the clubs of North Hills decorated throughout winter break. North Park is hosting light shows, and drive-by holiday light displays are still open. The possibilities for this holiday season are endless. Have a happy, healthy, and fun holiday season!!
