What is going on with the Tik-Tok ban?
September 17, 2020
There has recently been a lot of talk about the possible Tik-Tok ban coming this month. On August 6th, President Donald Trump announced an executive order that would ban Tik-Tok in the United States. President Trump said that if a United States company does not buy it, the app would be banned in the middle of September. On September 13th, reports started circulating that the software company Oracle had won the bid against Microsoft. However, it has been described that it is more of a partnership than an acquisition. What does this mean for Tik-Tok and its users? No one is quite sure yet, but all we know is that Tik-Tok is still up and running as of September 16th.
As of September 18th, 2020, the Trump administration has announced a Tik-Tok ban in the United States as early as Sunday, September 20th, 2020. That ban, however, will only affect new downloads of the app. A broader ban was pushed back to November 12, 2020, as a U.S. take over is still in the works. On Sunday U.S. companies would be banned from distributing Tik-Tok or WeChat. What does that mean for Tik-Tok’s users? Rest assured, Tik-Tok will stay intact until at least November 12th, 2020.
