North Hills Track Team performs despite weather at Butler Invitational
April 14, 2014
On Friday, April 14, the Indians Track and Field Team travelled to the 50th Annual Boys/13th Annual Girls Butler Invitational, amidst rain and cooler temperatures.
Unfortunately, neither team took home a trophy. Yet, individuals and relay teams performed well at one of the biggest invitationals in the state. On the girls’ team, the 4×100 meter relay team (Taylor Horsley, Scout Cheeks, Lauren Wiles, Nicole Polaski) took home medals for their third place finish in 51.96 seconds. The girls’ 4×800 meter relay team (Sarah Glatz, Emma Bagnato, Maddie Evans, Ava Pietryzk) also found their place on the podium with their fifth place finish in 10:05.50. Individually, Lauren Wiles medalled twice for her fourth place finish in the 100 meters and seventh place finish in the 200 meters, and she also anchored the 4×100 meter relay team. When asked about her performance, Wiles said she shocked herself by placing in every event, and said, “I believe the relay team has a great chance to return to states, since we’ve put in so much effort to be better than we were last year.”
The boys’ team featured two medalists. Senior Noah Bostick made his way to the podium four times with a first place finish in the high jump with a height of 6-03.00, second in the 110 meter hurdles in 15.28 seconds, a third place finish in the 300 meter hurdles in 41.48 seconds, and a fifth place finish in the long jump with a distance of 21.00-25.
