The North Hills Lip-dub: Observations and Everything You Missed
April 15, 2014
At this point, we have all seen the North Hills Lip-dub dozens of times. However, there is so much going on in the video that there are a lot of interesting aspects that have probably gone unseen by many of us. Here is everything you might have missed in the North Hills Lip-dub (works best if read while following along with the video):
0:06-0:11: Nick Ross with a nice little Hitchcockian cameo in his own video.
0:07: Jan the Janitor demands your silence.
0:14-0:27: I know a lot of people are curious about this one. Yes, that is Noah Pepmeyer’s actual guitar audio being interlaced with the song that you hear.
0:29-0:35: Chad Meyer jumps out to an early lead in the category of “Most Passionate Lip-dubber.”
0:35: Chad almost crushes Lindsey Feltz with his bat right here.
0:40: Mr. Matt Tomaszewski.
0:48: Sloan’s having a good time.
0:52: Ben Osmond appearance #1
0:54: Alain Niyibizi has the upper-body strength of a lion. Coincidentally, he once told me he fought a lion in his native country of Rwanda.
0:52-0:55: This kid is DEFINITELY having a good time.
1:00-1:06: Kara Walker takes over the top spot in the “Most Passionate Lip-dubber” contest.
1:39-1:48: The rave was definitely one of the cooler parts of this video. Very original.
1:39: Brandon Chmura is an orc.
2:01: What would a North Hills lip dub be without the Karate Kid himself?
But what happens if you look just above Will Murray…
2:11: Nate Longjohn tucks the no-look, behind the back pass into the bottom right corner of the net just before the camera pans away.
2:12: Did this kid just have a full Captain America costume lying around or did he borrow Lisak’s?
2:19: Is that “Scoop” from Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide?
2:22: Connor Forsythe is just pumped about newspapers.
2:28: We are so distracted by Abby Lucas taking a strong lead in the “Most Passionate Lip-dubber” race, that most of us missed Sam Homic’s back flip behind her.
2:42: Ben Osmond appearance #2
2:43-2:47: Is it just me, or are Maya Carter and Abby Humphrey SPRINTING backwards?
2:49: Jarod Rodney doing a little product placement for “Switch,” that super-off brand pop they serve in the cafeteria.
2:50: Luke Fabisiak is clearly on his cell phone.
3:00-3:08: The trombone players are doing something called “suicides.” As much as I would hate to see David Veevers take a horn to the face, it would have made the lip-dub.
3:00-3:11: Stephen Knott and Lindsey Crandell take the lead in the “Most Passionate Lip-dubber” contest, and with no lyrics left in the song, it looks like they’re going to hold onto it.
3:13-3:19: A lot of you may have wondered why there is a six second period of the camera panning over the basketball hoop. Dylan Mitchell and Colin Paulauskas were supposed to dunk one after another for their part in the sequence. Due to a miscommunication, they both went up before Joos reached them, and they didn’t have time to reset. To their credit, however, they both threw down.
3:25: It’s almost impossible to capture in a still-shot, but Sam Farber is wearing a ski mask in the top right corner of the Red Sea.
3:28: Shout out to this kid for putting his body on the line for the lip-dub.
3:34:
3:41: Always good to see the horse head make an appearance.
3:50: I don’t even have a joke for this. Noah Bostick’s dive was pretty incredible.
4:03: Ben Osmond appearance #3
4:06: I don’t know why I find Lexi Waxter jumping around in snorkeling gear so funny… but I do.
4:10: There is so much going on in the last sequence, but I can’t ever seem to look away from AJ Lyles.
4:24:
4:34: Ben Osmond appearance #4
5:05: Tyler Ray hitting the Nae-Nae as the credits roll. My dad walked into the kitchen while I was watching this once, and the only comment he had on the entire video was “Wow, Tyler Ray sure is bashful.”
The last observation I have may not necessarily be from our video, but as a journalist, I feel it must be brought to the attention of the public:
