Top 5 Leonardo DiCaprio Films for Guys

Connor Forsythe, Opinions Editor

Leonardo DiCaprio is, without a doubt, one of the most successful actors of our time. Not only is he a bona fide heartthrob, but also an adept actor, starring in many blockbuster films during his career. However, I feel there is a misconception that DiCaprio only appears in films that appeal to women. That is simply not the case. Although he has appeared in classic chick flicks such as Titanic and Romeo + Juliet, he has also appeared in several awesome movies for guys. Below is my list of the top 5 Leonardo DiCaprio movies for guys. Each one is fantastic and definitely worth a watch.

5. Wolf of Wall Street. I figured it would be a good idea to start this list with a movie that is out right now. Wolf of Wall Street is about stockbroker, Jordan Belfort, who works his way up from the bottom to become one of the most successful stockbrokers in New York City. However, his drug abuse and greed threaten to derail everything he worked for. With the FBI watching his every move, Belfort desperately attempts to stay on top of Wall Street.

4. Django Unchained. Django Unchained follows the story of a man named Django, played by Jamie Foxx. Once a slave, he was freed by a bounty hunter named Schultz. After performing several bounty hunting missions with Schultz, Django asks Schultz to help him free his wife from slavery. Schultz agrees, and together they go find his wife. They find that she is a slave at the Candyland plantation, owned by the charming, yet brutal, Calvin Candie, played by DiCaprio. Together, Django and Schultz must try to outwit Calvin Candie so Django can free his wife.

3. Shutter Island. In this movie, Leonardo DiCaprio plays a U.S. Marshal, who, along with his partner, is sent to investigate the disappearance of a patient at a hospital for the criminally insane, which is located on Shutter Island. The staff informs them about the missing patient, but things go wrong when they start to investigate the disappearance. DiCaprio’s partner disappears, and then DiCaprio starts seeing things. He desperately tries not only to find the missing patient, but also to find out what is wrong on this island.

2. The Departed. This Martin Scorcese film stars Leonardo DiCaprio alongside several other big stars, such as Jack Nicholson and Matt Damon. Jack Nicholson plays a crime boss who has one of his men (Damon) infiltrate the police force as a “mole.” Unbeknownst to them, the police force has sent one of their men (DiCaprio) to be a mole in the crime organization. After a while, both sides become aware that there is a mole within their respective organizations, and it is up to both moles to figure out who the other is.

1. Inception. I’ll be honest: this movie is difficult to explain, but trust me when I say that it is awesome. My simplest explanation is that Leonardo DiCaprio plays a man who commits crimes by using a new military technology that allows him to infiltrate people’s subconscious. While in someone’s subconscious, he attempts to extract information. His next target, Japanese businessman Saito, requires DiCaprio to assemble a team to infiltrate the man’s mind using tiered “dream within a dream” strategies. DiCaprio is asked to perform an inception, which is the implanting of another person’s ideas into the target’s subconscious. This leads to an action-packed and exciting rest of the movie. This is a movie that you have to watch from the very beginning until the very end because it is very hard to understand. However, it is, without a doubt, one of the coolest movies I have ever seen.
