Get ready to ride the WAVES

Get ready to ride the WAVES

Owen Davis, Entertainment Editor

After years of speculation, Mr. West is finally returning. Ever since his daughter North was born, rumors have been swirling of Kanye in the works of a new album. Everyone would like to believe that he has been just sitting around doing nothing, but he really has been busy, believe it or not. He’s either taking over runways in Europe or taking over the sneaker game with his famous “Yeezy Boosts” made by Adidas, which are reselling for more the $1000. And let’s not forget also who his wife is.

Really though, thank goodness we are finally getting another Yeezy-made album. The follow up to Yeezus was first titled SWISH but has recently changed to Waves. Many people (including myself) who are rap enthusiasts believe that this album is stacked up to be the peak of his career. Hard to believe when that self-proclaimed god seems as though everything he has made turns to gold. However, there are many reasons as to why I believe this work is to be West’s best yet. As he did with past albums, Kanye has started yet again his “Good Fridays,” where he released one song from the album early on every Friday leading to the album’s debut. He did this for two weeks and gave the world “Real Friends” and “No More Parties in LA” featuring Kendrick Lamar but has not in recent weeks. Now if “No More Parties in LA” is any indication as to what is in store for the rest of Waves, then we’re all in store for one to tell the kids and grandkids about one day. So buckle up.

Aside from the early taste of the album, after Kanye had released the tracklist it is just stacked from top to bottom with heavy hitter features, ranging from Compton native Kendrick Lamar, Grammy winner Sia, and even Drake’s uncle make appearances. Aside from the album, Kanye has recently been caught up in some Twitter beef with fellow rap artist Wiz Khalifa and former girlfriend Amber Rose. With some not so nice things said between each other, I think even Mr. West can agree we’re all ready for this album to drop.

Waves is set to release on Thursday, February 11, 2016. Here are a few Tweets from Yeezy himself to wet your whistle:
